About Nor-Sky Pet Supply Distributors LLC

Why the Name Nor-Sky?

Mark and Pam came up with this name from the first couple of dogs that they had owned, Ch. Nanuk of the Northern Lights C.D., WWPDX, and Ch.Atanik’s Sno-Fluree of Big Sky CD WWPD. Both dogs were Alaskan Malamutes which they showed, obedience trained, weight pulled, back packed and dog sledded with. Mark and Pam wanted to come up with a Kennel name that was brief, represented where they lived and had a good ring to it. So they used the combination the two dogs’ names Northern Lights and Big Sky to create the name Nor-Sky.

Mark, Pam & Erik Johnson

Mark and Pam got started in dogs back in 1977 when Mark got Pam her first dog, Natasha a black and white Alaskan Malamute. One thing led to another and the next thing they knew, they were knee deep in dogs and dog activities such as dog shows, obedience trials, weight pulls, dog sledding, and back packing. They started organizing weight pull competitions back in 1981 and have conducted over 200 such events over a 15 year period. Through these events they were able to get involved in the pet industry and Mark started working for some pet supply distributors through the 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Mark then started the Old West Treat Company in 1991 through the Con Agra Company and worked for them for 10 years developing a number of Brands of pet treats for ConAgra and Sergeant’s Pet Products. They made body part and formulated treats. Mark learned a lot about the pet industry from this job by developing treats, attending trade shows and conferences for product labeling and marketing. He also worked for the Kong Company and then started Nor-Sky Pet Supply Distributors LLC. Mark feels that all of the jobs leading up to this prepared him for this business, to give him an understanding of what manufacturers, retailers and distributors are really looking for in a business and what it takes to be successful.

Pam has been involved with the dogs from the very start and has shown, obedience trained and conducted working dog activities for competitions, as well. Pam has spent the last 28 years as a public school teacher and has just joined us at Nor-Sky, truly loving the business. Erik now joins the company as a sales associate. He has worked this business as early as his high school years bagging and labeling Big Bark products. He went to U.N.C. for a year and joined us full time delivering products to our accounts. Erik truly knows our product lines and is excited about managing many customer accounts.
